Does Your Home Have a Mold Infestation ?

6/26/2023 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
• Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
• Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
• Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
• Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
• Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
• Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, SERVPRO of Corona can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Mold Growth inside a Closet Water damage left untreated causes mold growth.

When water damage is not reported when it needs to be reported, mold is definitely going to grow in the affected areas as it did in the pictures above. The customer left for vacation and when he came back, most of the downstairs area was affected and had mold growth. Please take a second to notice the height that mold reached in just a few days that the water damage was not treated.  SERVPRO of Corona will, at this point, set up a plan to mitigate the mold.

Unfortunately, the homeowner was not aware of the water damage happening in his home. When going away for an extended period of time, we suggest the homeowner have someone they trust to check on the home to prevent a mold disaster such as this one.

Water Damage Leads to Mold Growth When Left Untreated

5/17/2018 (Permalink)

Homeowners were out of town when this water damage happened. Since it was left untreated, mold began to grow.

Homeowners were out of town when this water damage occurred. Unfortunately, due to nobody being in the home, the water damage went untreated for six days. During this time, water saturated the walls, flooring, and cabinets throughout the downstairs area of the home. SERVPRO of Corona was called to assess the water damage. Upon arrival, SERVPRO of Corona crew noticed there was about 2-3 inches of standing water and microbial growth on the walls. The first thing the crew did was moving contents and furniture to an unaffected area of the home in attempts to salvage them. The next step was to extract the water using a truck mount extractor. Thirdly, the homeowners' items were packed and moved into another area of the home so that cabinets and furniture could be removed. Fourth step was the removal of cabinets, drywall, and floors as they were heavily affected by the water damage. (Notice the microbial growth on the walls) The final step was mold remediation. With the help of a hygienist, the home mold spores in the home were reduced to where it is now safe to live in the home. Just a friendly reminder to have a family member, friend and or neighbor keep an eye on your home when you are out of town just in case this happens in your home!
